Yvette M. Deschanes
PORTLAND – Yvette Deschanes, 93, of Portland, went peacefully onto her new life just as the sun was rising on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.
Born in the family home in Waterville, Yvette was the daughter of the late Joseph Mathieu and Lydia (Roy) Mathieu. She went to school in Waterville from elementary to college and received a degree from Thomas Business School.
Yvette had a 25-year career at Maine National Bank working in the Trust Department with estates and wills. She also volunteered at Maine Medical Center for 25-plus years, as she enjoyed making people happy at The Coffee Shop.
In June 1997, she married Bernard O. Deschanes, and they went on to have four wonderful years together between Portland, Maine and Clearwater, Fla. They loved dancing, traveling, playing cards, and enjoying time with family and friends all the while between Maine and Florida.
Yvette is survived by daughters Shari Shepard and Lori Paulette and their husbands Carroll and Chuck; as well as four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren who already miss her. She is also survived by the extended family of Bonnie, Jeff, and Jamie Robertson, and Lori Glenn and family.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Bernard; her sister, Geneva, and brother, David Belanger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 492 Ocean Ave., Portland. Yvette will be laid to rest privately at Maine Veteran’s Cemetery with her husband Bernard in Augusta, at a later date.
