One of the reasons I support Sen. Susan Collins is based on my own personal experience.
As a former state of Maine employee, I spent more than 51 months fighting for my MainePERS disability retirement claim through multiple denials and appeals. During that time, I wrote hundreds of letters and emails to state officials, legislators, oversight agencies and others seeking assistance. Despite being a disabled state employee, I received no meaningful assistance or support from the Mills administration.
Sen. Collins’ office was the only office that consistently responded. Her staff was professional, courteous, prompt and willing to listen. They treated me with respect and helped me navigate a frustrating and lengthy process when few others would even acknowledge my concerns.
Constituent service matters. When Mainers need help, they deserve elected officials and staff who respond. My experience with Sen. Collins’ office demonstrated exactly that.
I also appreciate Sen. Collins’ independence, her willingness to work across party lines when necessary, and her focus on serving all Mainers.
