I thought I was reading an intro to “Saturday Night Live.”
RNC Chairman Joe Gruters’ June 10 op-ed (“The fight for America’s future has kicked off in Maine”), an ode to Donald Trump, noted that Trump’s “job is not finished” and said that not electing more Republicans would threaten “rule of law,” and that Democrats, if they retake Congress, would be “launching endless investigations.”
Gruters said Trump was “delivering results.” Like closing agencies that help Americans with food? Halting disease research? His family members have gained government connections and enriched themselves ($4 billion so far). Trump’s own “endless investigations” and lawsuits against perceived “enemies,” costing untold tens of millions, include Maine. We pay.
Trump pardoned felons, including previous aides, and more than 1,500 “patriots” who stormed the Capitol in January 2021. We’re paying $2.7 billion in property damage and other costs for that big party. We’re also paying for raids in search of immigrants ($15 billion per year) and detention centers ($45 billion).
We pump up to $2 billion per day into a careless war against Iran and “War” Secretary Hegseth’s farcical promotional videos of U.S. bombings.
Trump dismissed the recent inflation report as positive, stating: “You know what I really love? I love the inflation.” Americans suffer major cost increases in food, fuel and more. We are not winning.
Famous for trashing opponents, calling them stupid, corrupt, calling them losers, now Trump refers to a Maine candidate as a “thug” and “worse than any human being that’s ever run for office.” Sound familiar?
