Ahbram Liendo capped a five-run second inning with a two-run homer, Gage Ziehl struck out nine in five innings, and the Portland Sea Dogs earned a 6-2 win over the Somerset Patriots in an Eastern League game Friday night at Hadlock Field.
Ziehl (3-2) struck out seven consecutive batters at one point, one shy of the franchise record held by Clay Buchholz. He allowed two runs on four hits.
Somerset’s Garrett Martin homered in the first inning, but the Sea Dogs took the lead in the second inning when Marvin Alcantara doubled home Johanfran Garcia and Miguel Bleis. Alcantara scored on a double by Stanley Tucker, and Liendo hit a fly ball over the Green Monster for his fourth home run of the season.
Liendo added an RBI single in the seventh after a leadoff triple by Nelly Taylor.
