Linda Rae Coates

ALBION – It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our mom, Linda Rae Coates, 78, of Albion. She peacefully passed away on June 12, 2026, with her children by her side. She was born on Sept. 26, 1947, and lived a devoted life defined by creativity, hard work and an unmatched love for her family and the simple joys of life.

Linda married Dale Coates on Jan. 22, 1984. They shared 41 years of marriage before Dale’s passing on August 7, 2025. Their life together was filled with appreciation for the beauty in everyday moments. They enjoyed tending their garden, canning together, scratching their lottery tickets, playing cribbage, and taking peaceful drives to the coast — these simple pleasures brought them great joy.

A gifted artist, Linda found happiness in drawing and painting. She thoroughly enjoyed making crafts and attending craft shows. She also loved to cook, and her family will forever remember her famous potato salad and spaghetti.

Linda was predeceased by her husband Dale Coates Sr.; grandparents, Warren “Babe” and Hester Wade; her mother and stepfather, Marilyn and Fred Wilson; her sister, Donna Morrill; her granddaughters, Melissa Bragg and Heather Bragg; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her children Keith Giles Jr. of Clinton, Kathy Giles of Albion, Kelly and her husband David Rancourt of Clinton; her grandchildren, Sonia, Steve, Shane, Mike, John, Tim and Sarah; several great grandchildren; one great-great-grand daughter; as well as her Uncle Richard Wade of Albion. She is also survived by Dale’s children and their family, whom she cared for deeply, David, Shelly, Ed, Brian, Nick, Ben and their children.

Her family would like to extend a very special and heartfelt thanks to the Andwell Health Partners and Andwell Hospice House. Their care and guidance throughout this journey will forever be remembered and deeply appreciated. Additionally, a very special thanks to Betsy who cared for our mom.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the China Masonic Hall, located at 50 Main St. in China, at 12:00 noon.
