A planned electrical outage that would have affected Central Maine Power customers between the company’s Oakland sub-station and one in Augusta on Saturday has been postponed indefinitely because of bad weather forecast for this week, a company spokeswoman said.
The company plans to re-configure how the substations are run in the area in order to improve reliability and reduce the frequency of outages, said Gail Rice, a spokeswoman for Central Maine Power.
A disruption in service was planned to take place between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m. Saturday in parts of Augusta, Belgrade, Manchester, Mount Vernon, New Sharon, Oakland, Rome, Sidney and Smithfield. The outage was planned to allow workers to work on the lines safely and efficiently, Rice said. A new date for the planned outage has not been set yet.
“We are anxious to finish this upgrade and are looking forward to rescheduling as soon as we find a good weather window for it,” Rice said.
