HARTLAND — Residents will be asked to consider raising $1.3 million in taxes to fund the municipal budget in 2015-2016 at Town Meeting on Saturday.
The number represents a reduction of $1,100 from the current budget total, according to Town Manager Chris Littlefield. He said the change comes from several different line items in the budget.
The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at Hartland Town Hall.
The annual town election will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Town Hall.
“I don’t think there’s anything here that’s controversial,” Littlefield said. “There’s nothing that’s changed much.”
The 22-item warrant for the meeting includes $218,723 for general government, including administrative costs, pay to officers and the cost of operating the Town Office; $31,050 for the Fire Department; $98,500 for fire hydrant rental; $15,000 for general assistance programs; and $191,000 for snow removal. The total amount of money residents are being asked to raise is $1,328,428, Littlefield said.
In elections, Judith Alton, the chairwoman of the Board of Selectmen, is running for re-election. Alton is running uncontested for a three-year term.
There are five candidates for four open seats on the Budget Committee. Each term is for three years. The candidates include incumbents Joan A. Connelly, Sherry L. Gilbert, Linwood G. Humphrey and Elmer H. Littlefield. Patricia A. Martin is also a candidate.
