ORONO — Robert Fasano, of Jefferson, has been named the Outstanding Graduating Student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Maine.

Fasano majored in physics, with a minor in mathematics. His academic honors include a Theodore and Dorothy Whitehouse Scholarship, and a Creative and Academic Achievement Fellowship from the Center for Undergraduate Research, according to a UMaine news release.

In August, he will join the Optical Frequency Measurements Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, Colorado, conducting research on cavity-stabilized laser systems for use in cutting-edge atomic clocks.

This fall, he will enter the Ph.D. program in physics at the University of Colorado Boulder.

Fasano is the son of Peter and Cheryle Fasano, of Jefferson.
