Why would anyone be ashamed or offended by being called Indian?

It is an honorable term. The picture of the Native American fishing with a spear is beautiful. The word Indian is in no way disrespectful.

The statue depicting an Indian is a tribute and a proud heritage of Skowhegan. The name of the town itself is of Indian origin.

This protest makes as much sense to me as the female population protesting against the sale of dough “boys” at the county fair.
