WALDOBORO — Police in Waldoboro are investigating an early morning crash and attempted burglary at a local supermarket.
Waldoboro Police Chief Bill Labombarde said officers responded to a call from a passer-by about 3:30 a.m. who noticed that the entrance to the Hannaford supermarket off Route 1 had been damaged. A truck, believed to have been stolen, was left at the scene and the suspect or suspects fled, either on foot or in another vehicle, the chief said.
Nothing was taken from the store, but police believe that the suspect or suspects were targeting an ATM machine just inside the front entrance. The machine was bolted to the floor.
Labombarde said the crash and attempted burglary are still under investigation but said police are hoping that security camera footage from the store will provide more information.
