AUGUSTA — A 43-year-old man was recovering Sunday from a gunshot wound that occurred early Saturday in an incident in North Augusta that Augusta police are investigating as an armed robbery.

The investigation is continuing, Augusta Police Sgt. Eric Lloyd said on Sunday. He said the injuries were not life-threatening.

He did not identify the victim beyond providing his age and saying that he was not a local man. The victim told police that money was taken from him, but provided no other details.

“He has not been very forthcoming,” Lloyd said.

The report from MaineGeneral Medical Center came into the Augusta Police Department at 5:25 a.m. Saturday, Lloyd said, adding that the hospital is required by law to report any gunshot wounds.

He said the incident occurred about 4 a.m. near the Augusta/Manchester line and that Maine State Police and Augusta officers concluded that the incident occurred in Augusta.
