NORRIDGEWOCK — The Board of Selectmen will consider adopting a credit card policy on Wednesday ahead of the town getting its first credit card.

The policy was drafted after recent instances of the town needing to make online purchases, including parts and equipment for the Norridgewock Waste Water Treatment Facility, said Town Manager Michelle Flewelling.

It will be considered at the regular Board of Selectmen’s meeting at 6 p.m. at the town office.

The credit card policy, titled “Employee Use of Town Credit Card,” gives the town manager, treasurer and department heads authorization to allow employees to use a town credit card.

Employees must also sign agreements acknowledging that they understand restrictions around the use of a town credit card.

The credit card cannot be used for personal or private expenditures or for regular operating expenses. Expenses must also be documented in the same way employees would request a reimbursement, with an itemized receipt and brief explanation of the purchase.

The town is in the process of acquiring a credit card with a low limit for purchases after town employees recently had to use personal credit cards and get reimbursed for purchases, Flewelling said.

In addition to the proposed policy, the board will also discuss on Wednesday an ongoing dispute over a cemetery plot in the Sunset View Cemetery where the town sold the same plot to two different families.
