The Norridgewock Board of Selectmen is asking for public input in its search for a new town manager.

Residents are invited to the board’s regular meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday night at the Norridgewock Town Office to offer feedback on the search process and what they’d like to see in the person ultimately named to the position.

“It’s not really a public hearing, but we want to hear from the public and get their input,” said Chairman of the Norridgewock Board of Selectmen Ron Frederick. “If the public has strong feelings about what they want to see in a town manager, we want to hear that.”

The board is working with the Maine Municipal Association in its search for a town manager to replace Michelle Flewelling, who is leaving in December to work as town manager in neighboring Fairfield.

Frederick said Monday that the board is hoping to have a new town manager in place by Jan.1. The deadline for applications for the job has passed, and the board is scheduled to review applications in a special selectmen’s meeting on Monday, Nov.23.

Frederick said Monday that he did not know how many applications the town has received.

“It will take a couple weeks to get the interviews lined up and do the interviews and then hire somebody,” Frederick said.

Flewelling’s departure comes after several clashes with the town’s sewer commissioners, including attempts by commissioners to silence her during a public meeting and to illegally hold an executive session to discuss her performance.

Flewelling, who has served as town manager since 2008, said her departure is not related to the conflicts with the sewer commissioners.

“The whole board wants to get input and look to the future,” Frederick said. “Hopefully we can find someone who can serve the town well.”
