The Rural Community Action Ministry in Leeds will host its first Empty Bowls supper from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Hartford Town Hall, 1196 Main St. Proceeds will benefit RCAM’s Hunger Prevention Services.
At the event, guests can select and take home a handmade bowl crafted by local artists, and enjoy a supper of soup, salad, bread and dessert.
Suggested donation for supper is $10 for adults and children older than 12, $5 for children 12 and younger, or $25 for a family of up to five. The first 50 people to arrive at the supper will receive a handmade pottery bowl to take home (limit two per family).
RCAM’s Hunger Prevention Services is made up of a gardening program and a hunger awareness/elimination activities. Its Gardening Program works to encourage and assist the elderly, disabled and people experiencing financial hardship to eliminate hunger and improve nutrition by helping them to grow and preserve their own food. RCAM also makes referrals to food pantries and community meals.
RCAM is active in four Hunger Coalitions addressing local food insecurity. The coalitions include members of the 13 communities served by RCAM. Its activities include weekend and summer food-availability for school-aged kids, community hunger and resource awareness, and stabilizing food programs in the area.
