It is with great respect that I write to agree with Maggie Edmondson’s letter to the editor in the newspaper’s Nov. 28 issue, “Fear divides people into ‘us’ and ‘them’.”

I would add that fear expands into bullying and thence to terrorism and hate. We, as a people, should be involved in helping one another and showing our compassion by opening doors, not shutting them.
