On Nov. 30, I participated in a funeral procession for a dear friend and former member of the Pittston Fire Department and Pittston Fair.

We left Staples Funeral Home in Gardiner and attempted to pass through the lights to cross the bridge to take the man to his resting place in Pittston.

I could not believe what I saw. The funeral procession had at least 80 vehicles trying to stay together, and other vehicles forced their way into the group. What didn’t the drivers understand? The red lights on the firetruck that carried his remains? The vehicles 20 feet apart going 5 miles per hour with four-way flashers on? People blowing their horns for them to stop?

I know exactly what the man in the urn would have said: You can’t fix stupid.
