RANGELEY — Two Rangeley residents were arrested Monday after police intercepted the couple allegedly attempting to sell prescription pain killers at a scenic overlook on Route 4.
Allan Stebbins, 33, and Lysandria Lewis, 28, were both charged with unlawful trafficking of a schedule W drug, a class B felony, Rangeley Police Sgt. Jared Austin said Tuesday.
Austin said he had received information that a drug transaction was going to take place at the Route 4 overlook, and he said Stebbins and Lysandria were the focus of the investigation.
Austin, Franklin County Sheriff Deputy Brad Scovil and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents responded to the overlook and said they found Stebbins and Lysandria there. Both were taken into custody, and police seized the Vicodin they were allegedly attempting to sell.
The couple were later released on Monday with a summons for the charges and are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23.
Stebbins was subsequently charged with a misdemeanor of operating after a vehicle after suspension. Lewis was charged with permitting unlawful use, a misdemeanor, for allowing Stebbins to drive her vehicle.
If convicted on the drug trafficking charge, the pair each face up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
