The Koussinoc Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored its annual History Essay Contest in February, which is observed as American History Month nation-wide.
Students from Winthrop Middle School, Windsor Middle School and St. Michael School participated. This year’s topic was “A Colonial Family’s Reaction to the Stamp Act.”
Each student was to describe a family’s discussion about the new Stamp Act and what role it played in organizing the colonists against the British King and Parliament.
Finalists were:
Grade 6: Charlotte Precourt of Winthrop Middle School placed first and Allen Weiss of St Michael School, Augusta placed second.
Grade 7: Samantha Box of Windsor Middle School won first place and Madison Forgue of Winthrop Middle School placed second.
Grade 8: Alexis Emery of Winthrop Middle School won first place and Andrew Dionne of St. Michael School placed second.
The students, their parents and siblings, and their teachers were invited to the Awards Meeting on March 14 at Fort Western Learning Gallery, Augusta City Center.
