WATERVILLE — A Skowhegan man was arrested on nine charges early Saturday morning after a vehicle chase through three communities ended in a cornfield in Norridgewock, police said.
Orlando Harry Perkins, 46, is charged with eluding an officer, operating under the influence — no test, motor vehicle speeding 30-plus mph over the speed limit, operating while license suspended or revoked, operating a vehicle without a license, driving to endanger, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and two outstanding warrants for eluding an officer and operating under the influence.
Waterville police tried to pull over Perkins’ vehicle around 1:15 a.m. Saturday on College Avenue, according to Sgt. Daniel Goss, of the Waterville Police Department.
When he wouldn’t stop, a chase ensued, at times reaching speeds of about 80 mph, through Waterville, Fairfield and Norridgewock.
The chase ended on Martin Stream Road in Norridgewock after a Somerset County Sheriff’s Office deputy deployed a spike mat, which deflated the vehicle’s tires. Perkins then drove off the road and led police on a foot chase through a cornfield, where he was finally shocked with a stun gun and taken into custody, Goss said.
He is being held at the Kennebec County jail in lieu of $8,300 cash bail.
The Fairfield Police Department and the Oakland Police Department also responded to the incident.
