GARDINER — Nic Berube tossed a no-hitter as Gardiner opened the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference baseball season with a 3-2 win over Leavitt in Gardiner.
Berube struck out eight and walked two, allowing both Leavitt runs, one of which was earned. Hunter Chasse and Deven Walker each had a hit and RBI. Chad Morin took the loss for the Hornets, allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks in six innings.
NYA 3, RICHMOND 2, 8 innings: NYA scored a walkoff win in the bottom of the eighth inning to win a pitcher’s duel in the Bobcats’ season-opener in Yarmouth.
Zach Small struck out nine and Matt Holt fanned five in relief for the Bobcats. Tyler Soucy led Richmond offensively with three singles.
SOFTBALL
LEAVITT 6, GARDINER 1: Kaitlyn Deblois homered to lead Leavitt over Gardiner in their KVAC softball opener.
Angela Daigle and Ashley Kelly added two hits apiece for the Hornets. Logan Granholm led the Tigers with two singles while Alexa Bigelow scored the lone run on an error.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
HUSSON 7-13, UMAINE-FARMINGTON 0-4: Sami Cyr and Lyndsay Merrill homered and combined to drive in five runs as Husson swept UMaine-Farmington in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader.
Alannah Healy scattered four hits in seven innings as the Eagles (10-18, 6-4) shut out UMF in game one, 7-0. Alison Hamilton drove in two runs for the Beavers (3-16, 0-5 NAC) in the 13-4 Game 2 loss.
