The Portland Sea Dogs swung the bats and stopped an eight-game losing streak Saturday, beating the Reading Fightin’ Phils 6-3 at Hadlock Field.
Jose Vinicio, Bryce Brentz and Jake Romanski all homered for the Sea Dogs (7-16).
Justin Haley (1-2) started and threw five strong innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk, while striking out nine. His ERA dropped to 3.09.
Boston Red Sox reliever Carson Smith, making his second straight rehab appearance in Portland, pitched a 1-2-3 sixth inning with one strikeout. Smith is scheduled to be in Boston on Sunday. He could be activated as early as Tuesday.
The Sea Dogs and Reading (14-8) return to Hadlock Field Sunday for a 1 p.m. game.
