Tires that were “beyond their useful life” were the cause of a single vehicle accident on Interstate 95 in Pittsfield Saturday that killed a 19-year-old Levant man, police said.
Kelcin Dullas was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near mile marker 144 southbound around 1 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland.
Dullas lost control of his truck, a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado, when it hydroplaned during a rain storm, McCausland said. Although the weather was partially to blame for the crash, McCausland also said the tires did not have adequate tread and “if not bald were close to it.”
Rescue workers and Maine State Police responded to the scene, the release said.
