The Echo Lake Association will begin lowering the water level of the lake starting Monday, Oct. 10, in order to complete work on sluice gates at the dam. This project was approved by the association membership at its annual meeting in 2015. Echo Lake, also known as Crotched Pond, is a lake located in the towns of Fayette, Mount Vernon and Readfield.
The current low level is because of the lack of rain during late summer, in conjunction with lots of sunny and windy days. Because the lake is already quite low, the lake will drop quickly once the boards in the dam are removed. Therefore, it is advised that people remove their boats no later than the Oct. 10.
