I don’t understand the inconsistency and hypocrisy. Republicans want to keep Americans safe so they ban refugees and immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries. We’ve never had a terrorist attack here from citizens of those countries.

We have had many attacks and massacres committed by U.S. citizen-terrorists with guns. Shouldn’t we be doing something about banning assault rifles and passing other gun control measures, instead of immigrant bans, to keep Americans safe? Why did the House of Representatives just strike down an Obama-era regulation that prevented those with a severe mental illness from buying a firearm? Only a small percentage of attacks are carried out by adults with a mental illness, but their families and all of us would feel safer when they can’t buy guns.

This immigration ban will not make us safer. It just scapegoats Muslims and stokes our fears.
