WORCESTER, Mass. — Emily Perkins, of Leeds, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, was a member of a student team that recently completed an intense, hands-on research project in Morocco.
In the project outline of Evaluating the Causes and Consequences of Climate Migration, the students wrote, “Our goal was to gather research from a variety of sources to determine potential risks and impacts of climate migration on different areas in Morocco,” according to a WPI release.
At the institute, all undergraduates are required to complete a research-driven, professional-level project that applies science and technology to addresses an important societal need or issue. About two-thirds of students complete a project at one of the university’s more than 40 off-campus project centers, which are located around the world.
