HINCKLEY — The Maine Academy of Natural Sciences recently held a penny war to see which advisory group could raise the most money. Sam Pendred’s advisory group was declared the winner. They got to choose which charity they wanted the money to benefit. The students chose the Somerset House Shelter of the Family Violence Project.

A check for $359.32 was presented by Pendred and her advisory to Melody Fitch, executive director of Family Violence Project, and Pam Morin, Somerset Shelter director. Rob Moody, executive director, and Ken Coville, president/director of Development, both of Good Will-Hinckley, also joined the check presentation.

MeANS, Maine’s first charter high school, which sits on the GWH campus, is a hand-on, individualized school that specializes in forestry, agriculture and sustainability. The school takes pride in giving back to the community. For more information on the school, visit www.gwh.org.
