A meteor blazes across the northeast sky above Hallowell on Monday at the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower. 

The annual August passage through the debris of the Swift-Tuttle comet exposes earth to hundreds of rocks burning up in the atmosphere. 

The spectacle reached its height during the early morning hours today but occasional shooting stars will persist streaking from an area in the night sky close to the constellation Perseus for several weeks.
