OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Kaitlyn Cote scored six of her 10 points in the fourth quarter as Old Orchard Beach pulled away from Winthrop 50-38 Tuesday night in a Class C South girls’ prelim.

OOB held Winthrop to just two points in the fourth, those coming with 28 seconds remaining.

The Seagulls (16-3) will play in the quarterfinals at the Augusta Civic Center at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Ramblers finished 7-12.

Maggie Strohm and Brianna Plante led OOB with 13 points each. Jillian Schmelzer had 10 for Winthrop.

OOB led by only a point entering the fourth. But the Seagulls 1-3-1 zone forced the Ramblers into a nightmarish shooting fourth.

The Seagulls led 32-25 after a wild first half.

It was a turnover-filled first quarter (24 total among both teams) followed by a fast-paced second.

The Ramblers hit five 3-pointers in the second and took a 20-19 lead with 3:29 left. But OOB’s Kaitlyn Cote regained the lead with a 3 of her own. Then Plante scored the last five points of the half to give the Seagulls their six-point lead.
