AUGUSTA — A 29-year-old Chelsea man was seriously injured Friday night after a car he was driving east on South Belfast Avenue left the road, hit several trees, and rolled onto its roof, police said.
The man was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston after the single-vehicle crash, and he remained there on Saturday, said Sgt. Eric Lloyd of the Augusta Police Department.
Reached around noontime on Saturday, Lloyd declined to provide the driver’s name, because he wasn’t the supervisor when the crash happened and he didn’t know if the man’s relatives had been notified. Lloyd also didn’t know whether the man’s condition had changed.
The crash was reported at 10:35 p.m. Friday in the vicinity of 835 South Belfast Avenue, which is just west of Togus Pond, according to Lloyd. The car, a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero, was traveling east toward Windsor when it reportedly left the road, rolled down an embankment, and flipped onto its roof after hitting some trees.
Maine State Police were called to reconstruct the accident scene, Lloyd said.
