A new text-message tip line will allow people to make anonymous reports of underage drinking and substance abuse to the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and the Gardiner Police Department.
“We stand ready to respond to reports of underage parties, illegal sharing of alcohol and other drugs,” Sheriff Randall Liberty said in a statement.
The service, called KVTip, was launched Friday. Text messages starting with the code KVTIP can be sent to 274637, and reports also can be made online at www.hccame.org or via social media such as Facebook or Twitter.
“I am very pleased that we are creating the opportunity for people to text-message to local law enforcement,” Gardiner police Chief James Toman said in a statement. “This has become the preferred form of communication for so many local citizens, and we want to remain as connected as possible.”
The service is being offered in cooperation with the Department of Public Safety’s Central Maine Regional Communications Center, the Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention and Youth Matter!
