The Winthrop Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9526, under the leadership of its VFW Cmdr. Stephen “Rex” Robbins, have set up and organized an Army utility trailer and turned it in to a 24/7 donation spot for bottle redemption.
All proceeds collected from the bottle redemption will benefit the Boy Scouts Troop 604, Girl Scout Troop 141, and the VFW Post 9526, all based in Winthrop.
Boy Scout Troop 604 recently was presented a check for $150 by Frank “Bear” Smimmo. Girl Scout Troop 141 also was presented a $150 check by Judge Advocate Bob Foster.
The VFW asks the Winthrop and surrounding communities to donate their bottles to this cause.
Steven Hodgkins, owner of MT Bottle company, 90 Royal St., Winthrop, has afforded these great organizations to place this Army utility trailer there and take the donated returnables. Land owners Lloyd Bryant and Rex Robbins offered their property for the trailer.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
