An estimated 400 players took Smith Field July 15 for the Third annual Kick Around the Clock for Cass 11-hour continuous soccer game at Thomas College in Waterville to honor the memory of former #11 Messalonskee High School soccer player Cassidy Charette. The event raised nearly $7,000 for the ShineOnCass Foundation, created by the Charette family to inspire youth volunteerism and continue the light and legacy of Cassidy, who died in 2014.

The ongoing soccer game was interrupted only once for a 30-minute lightening precaution, but continued throughout the day and evening, ending in a moment of silence and a walk-on ceremony by Cassidy’s soccer teammates, former Messalonskee High School Girls Soccer vs. her Central Maine United Premier Soccer team. Teams made up of soccer, track, basketball and field hockey athletes, as well as former classmates, neighborhood friends and 40 summer campers from Camp Manitou and Camp Modin, played in the event. Money raised supports the ShineOnCass Foundation, created by Cassidy’s family to continue their daughter’s passion for community service and encourage others to spread kindness to others.

The event was sponsored by Golden Pond Wealth Management, Central Maine Motors Auto Group, TSSD Services and Thomas College, with event support from Sheba’s Wicked Kitchen, Oakland House of Pizza, Aroma Joe’s, Are You Ready to Party? and NLC Ink.
