Fire, police and emergency medical units were on the scene of a possibly serious accident Tuesday afternoon on Route 150 in Cornville, just north of the Skowhegan town line.
Early reports said two people were injured in the single-vehicle accident and that a LifeFlight helicopter was requested.
The driver of a black 2007 Toyota Camry, Tia Nadeau, 33, of Canaan, and passenger Kelly Lowe, 53, of Skowhegan, were reported to have suffered injuries that were considered serious but not life-threatening.
The accident was reported to have happened about 2:40 p.m. on a section of the road known as Beckwith Road. Cornville and Skowhegan fire crews were sent to the crash scene, as was an EMS ambulance from Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.
The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Route 150 was closed to all traffic for a period of time.
Somerset County Sheriff’s Deputies Cpl. Ritchie Putnam, Brandon Lambert and Brian Crater responded to the calls, according to a news release from Chief Deputy James Ross.
The report stated that the crash was south of Cass Corner and that several people were in the car, trapped and unconscious, with the car lying on its side. The car also was reported to be smoking.
Cornville Fire, Skowhegan Fire, Redington-Fairview EMS, the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police also responded. Fire and rescue personnel were able to remove the occupants who were taken to Redington-Fairview Hospital.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. No further information was available.
