A Massachusetts native, he graduated from the University of Maine in 1999 with a BA in Journalism. He began his journalism career as a sports reporter at the Berkshire (Pittsfield, Massachusetts) Eagle in 1999. He also worked at the Republican-American (Waterbury, Connecticut) and Eagle-Tribune (Lawrence, Massachusetts).
