HALLOWELL — The Gardiner hockey team knows it’s going to take a monumental effort in the second half of the regular season to ascend from the Western B basement and clinch one of the five playoff berths.

A Massachusetts native, he graduated from the University of Maine in 1999 with a BA in Journalism. He began his journalism career as a sports reporter at the Berkshire (Pittsfield, Massachusetts) Eagle in 1999. He also worked at the Republican-American (Waterbury, Connecticut) and Eagle-Tribune (Lawrence, Massachusetts). In his free time, he enjoys adventures with his family, reading and a good game of cribbage.

It didn’t take long for the “Icernator Zamboni,” which the Bank of Maine Ice Vault debuted Dec. 22, to impact a game. The Skowhegan hockey team opened the season with nine consecutive victories to establish itself as a legitimate playoff threat in Eastern A. The Indians suffered their first loss Saturday, losing to the Maranacook/Hall-Dale/Winthrop cooperative team 4-1, and coach Jeff Fowler said he was eager to see how his team would respond.
