The third annual memorabilia auction at this weekend’s Northeast Motorsports Expo at the Augusta Civic Center raised money to help preserve Maine’s racing heritage.

While pets died in the Gardiner blaze, a beagle named Sam was saved from the Hallowell apartment fire.

After firefighters from Gardiner and five nearby communities spent several hours extinguishing the blaze on Riverview Drive, the fire chief called the building “a total loss.”
