CLASS D BOYS BASKETBALL: Forest Hills, fans share victory
BANGOR — This wasn’t Hickory High School playing in Butler Fieldhouse, but Forest Hills’ 55-48 victory over Central Aroostook at the Bangor Auditorium on Saturday sure felt like a scene out of Hoosiers.
CLASS D GIRLS BASKETBALL: Richmond face tough task
For the third straight year, Washburn will play Western Maine champion Richmond in the state title game.
HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL: Pearson, Lancaster important pieces for Richmond
The Bobcats hope for a half-court game to neutralize Washburn’s pressure defense. Alyssa Pearson and Ciarra Lancaster will be instrumental in that strategy. The two are bookends to 6-foot center Jamie Plummer, who has scored over 1,000 points in her career and is capable of taking over a game on her own.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: Monmouth’s Fletcher works toward his goal
Kyle Fletcher has two more years of high school and American Legion baseball to achieve his goal of becoming a DIvision I player. But he’s not standing pat.
WESTERN D BOYS BASKETBALL: Ouellette lifts Forest Hills to regional title

EASTERN A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Coaches set an example
Bangor’s Katie Herbine is 23 weeks along and visibly showing her pregnancy while Cony’s Karen Magnusson is 17 weeks in and, although she looks close to the shape she was in during her playing days, she has made no secret of it. Their conditions have had little effect on their coaching, although Magnusson admitted to a little exhaustion early on.
WESTERN D GIRLS BASKETBALL: Richmond, Rangeley a good matchup
Neither team took their tournament opponents for granted, but Rangeley and Richmond fully expected to play one another Saturday for the Western Maine Class D girls basketball championship.
EASTERN A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bangor a tall task for Cony
Neither Cony coach Karen Magnusson nor Bangor coach Katie Herbine is putting much stock in the regular season meeting between their teams on Jan. 4. But the fact remains that Bangor won 64-46 on Cony’s home floor and held a 51-24 advantage in rebounds. The teams play again tonight for the Eastern Maine Class A championship at the Augusta Civic Center and the thinking is Cony is a much improved team.
WESTERN D GIRLS BASKETBALL: Richmond advances to another regional final
AUGUSTA — Hyde’s plan to stop Richmond’s Jamie Plummer worked even better than Coach Richard Polgar thought it would. But the Phoenix had no answer for Plummer’s teammates. Seniors Alyssa Pearson and Ciarra Lancaster took up the scoring slack and all the Bobcats played strong defense on their way to a 43-36 victory Thursday morning at the Augusta Civic Center.
