LEGION NOTEBOOK: Franklin County in good position
Franklin County has put itself in great shape for one of the four playoff spots in American Legion baseball Zone 2. Pitching is probably the biggest reason, as Tim Smith, Jordan Richard, Eli Capen, Bradley Jackson and Jimmy Neal have all thrown quality innings.

AMERICAN LEGION BASEBALL: Post 51 shuts out Madison
MADISON — Post 51 played like a first-place team (which it is) and Madison played like a young team which is still improving (which it is). Post 51 broke away in the fifth inning on its way to an 11-0 victory Tuesday in a Zone 2 American Legion baseball game shortened to six innings by the mercy rule.

COLLEGE CONNECTIONS: Williams taking on hurdles in Arizona
Ci’ara Williams graduated from Waterville Senior High School, but she was born in Phoenix. So when she enrolled at Northern Arizona University and heard the area got snow, she just laughed it off the way any winter-hardened Mainer would.
