NEWPORT — The Nokomis softball team could probably play with Medomak Valley, the No. 1 ranked team in Eastern B. But it would take the Warriors’ best game, and they were just a little bit off Monday afternoon.

The Nokomis softball team’s roster hasn’t changed much, but the Warriors have already won as many games as they did in all of 2011. The Warriors are 7-3 this season after going 7-9 last spring. Nokomis also owns big wins against Gardiner, Maranacook, and Winslow.

WATERVILLE — The Waterville softball team had all weekend to think about losing a seven-run lead and the game to Camden Hills on Friday. On Monday, the Purple Panthers discovered the secret to recovery: Play one of your best games of the year, and don’t let the other team score.

Waterville boys tennis coach Jim Begin said during preseason that his team would need to win the 3-2 matches and would be battling for one of the final four playoff spots.
