WATERVILLE — An Oakland man was killed early Saturday morning when the brand-new sports car he was driving at high speeds hit a telephone pole with such force that the engine block was torn out of the vehicle.

An environmental program that was transferred recently from state administration to that of a private group received a boost in the form of a $10,000 grant that will help to keep the program running.

SMITHFIELD— Local residents will remember former Gov. John Reed at a local service Sunday. Reed, who died of pneumonia Oct. 31 at the age of 91, spent his summers at his camp on North Pond and was a familiar face in the Smithfield community.
