OAKLAND — Chapin LaBelle, a longtime assistant football coach at Messalonskee and Skowhegan high schools, will act as Mesalonskee’s head coach for the remainder of the season.

Messalonskee athletic director Tom Hill said he expects to name an interim head football coach this week, and that coach will be in place for Friday’s game at Edward Little High School in Auburn.

Faced with the sudden resignation of its head coach, the Messalonskee High School football team did what it had to do on Friday night. The Eagles rallied around each other and played their best game of the season, beating Oxford Hills, 41-0.
