WATERVILLE — When a football play runs just as it’s supposed to, your eye is drawn to the smaller guy running to the end zone with the football. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound guy back near the line of scrimmage, that’s somebody like Waterville Senior High School’s Tom Cox.

WATERVILLE — It’s been five years since the Mt. Blue High School girls soccer team won a playoff game. That made the Cougars 3-1 win over Waterville in the Eastern Class A quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon sweet. That the win came against a team the Cougars have struggled against for years made the smiles on the faces of the Mt. Blue players a little wider.

Winslow High School head coach Mike Siviski was pleasantly surprised when his team earned the top spot in the Campbell Conference Class C playoffs. The Black Raiders finished the regular season at 7-1 and tied with Oak Hill in the Crabtree Point standings, but Winslow’s win over Oak Hill gave the Black Raiders the nod.

NEWPORT — Saturday was a day of milestones for the Nokomis Regional High School football team, but rather than dwell on the day’s success, the Warriors were looking to the future.

READFIELD — Betsy Harwood and her daughter Lauren stood in the last row of the bleachers at Ricky Gibson Field of Dreams, and took pictures of the 50-yard line. There, the initials “TH” were painted, black with gold trim, the colors of the Maranacook Community High School football team.

BRUNSWICK — On a foggy night at Crimmins Field, the Lawrence High School football team made it very clear who is in control of the Pine Tree Conference Class A division.

READFIELD — Sooner rather than later, the Poland Regional High School football team will reach the playoffs. But for the second year in a row, the Knights had to be happy in the role of spoiler, preventing their final opponent of the season from clinching a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Tonight’s Pine Tree Conference Class A game between Lawrence (7-0) and Brunswick (6-1) could be a playoff preview. That would suit Brunswick just fine. The last two times the Dragons and the Bulldogs met in the playoffs, the Dragons came away with a win.

With the first half of the season complete, the Colby College football team is 0-4, and head coach Jonathan Michaeles said the biggest reason for the lack of success is simple.
