The chair of the Maine Domestic Violence Homicide Review Panel says state officials, like the public, want to know why Svend Jorgensen killed his wife and son.

They were victims of ‘swatting,’ a growing phenomenon in which fake emergency calls are designed to draw a large law enforcement response that may include SWAT teams.

Police call the shootings a domestic violence case, but a note left by Svend Jorgensen gave no indication of a motive.

Henry Cygan, 71, is charged with reckless conduct with a firearm.

Autopsies will continue today on the bodies of Carol and Svend Jorgensen and their son Eric, described as ‘delightful people’ and ‘pillars of the community.’

The victims – a man and woman in their 70s and a man in his 40s – are believed to be members of the same family.

Two officers are treated and released at the scene, while the other driver is hospitalized.
