Some researchers now believe that chemicals in the environment may be reprogramming babies’ metabolisms. Chemical exposure, they say, may help explain the dramatic rise in obesity, even among young children.

Winthrop library to get new roof

WINTHROP — C.M. Bailey Public Library, soon to be a century old, is slated for a new roof. A $74,282 grant from the Communities for Maine’s Future program, and a matching amount from the library’s board of trustees endowment fund, should be enough to pay for a new slate roof, said Richard Fortin, library director.
