Mark Elliott, who led a petition drive to recall four councilors, said that action on the ordinances had been “conveniently tabled until after the recall vote.”

The same four councilors targeted in the recall voted to dismiss Town Manager Zakk Maher in June.

Maher was not at the meeting Monday night when the four councilors who voted to terminate his contract in June rescinded that vote in front of a packed gymnasium at the Municipal Building.

The Town Council has a recent history of hiring leaders without municipal experience.

The citizen-initiated petition drive was spurred in part by the town’s refusal to offer more details behind Town Manager Zakk Maher’s dismissal.
