Candidates outspent by outsiders in Maine Senate race

The Maine race’s per-voter cost is sixth highest in the nation because of PAC and nonprofit spending unleashed by court rulings.

Dill and King put more emphasis on green fuels and oppose nuclear, but Summers favors broader uses of all domestic sources, such as oil drilling.

Most contributors to the top three candidates are Mainers, but out-of-state checks are the biggest.

Angus King remains the leader by far in dollars raised, giving him a large cash cushion for the final month of the U.S. Senate campaign.

The contributions were ‘sincere, heartfelt’ and not from wealthy out-of-state donors, the Democrat says.

King and Dill didn’t give their reports yet, but the FEC says outsiders are by far outspending all three.

Both criticize Republican Charlie Summers for not attending a forum on poverty and the homeless.
