Vassalboro residents to vote on bigger town budget, paving work

The municipal budget is up by more than 3 percent, but revenue increases should offset any effect on taxes.

Despite increases in multiple line items, town manager Rhonda Irish says overall budget will decline thanks to state revenue sharing.

Budget articles were the only items discussed at the Monday meeting.

Town Meeting will be held Monday, May 8, with the $5.6 million municipal budget as the only discussion item.

Residents also voted after a heated discussion to join the Central Maine Growth Council.

Selectmen followed a recommendation by the town Planning Board.

While the proposed budget is up by 4.7 percent, it won’t be paid for with a commensurate tax increase.
