Ukrainian says its sea drones have struck a major Russian port and damaged a warship as the Black Sea becomes an increasingly important battleground in the war.

Russian shelling has damaged a landmark church in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson that held the remains of Prince Grigory Potemkin until last year.

Russian officials have claimed that the repeated attacks on the capital region reflect failures in Ukraine’s counteroffensive to recapture Russian-occupied territory.

The strike on Zelensky’s hometown, which has been hit in the past, happened a day after the Ukrainian president warned that the fighting was drawing closer to Russian land.

Sunday’s was the fourth such strike on the capital region this month and the third this week, showing Moscow’s vulnerability as Russia’s war in Ukraine drags into its 18th month.

The Russian Defense Ministry said it shot down a Ukrainian missile in the city of Taganrog, about 24 miles east of the border with Ukraine, and local officials reported 20 people were injured.

Ukraine has committed thousands of troops in the Kyiv region in recent days.

In just a week, Russia has fired dozens of missiles and drones at the region, hitting the historic city center that had been largely spared since the beginning of the war.
