WATERVILLE — Twelve mother-daughter adventure pairs recently toured operating rooms at MaineGeneral Hospital, Thayer Campus, through Hardy Girls Healthy Women’s new partnership with MaineGeneral Health.

The adventure was led by Dr. Karen Bossie of Waterville Women’s Care. Bossie explained how to become an obstetrician-gynecologist and a surgeon. Participants had a chance to use the da Vinci robot, a four-arm surgical robot which is one of four in the state, on “Whoville,” a rubber practice station for surgeons. MaineGeneral Health nurses and doctors opened their operating rooms for participants to learn about the instruments, what anaesthesiology is and why an operating room’s temperature is cool.

The next adventure, Skin Deep Science, will be Saturday, June 23, with Karen Sennett, certified operating room nurse and first surgical assistant, and Becky Maheu, licensed practical nurse, to learn about the largest organ in the body — the skin.

To register, call 861-8131 or visit hghw.org/adventuregirls. Registration costs $25 per mother-daughter pair for each session. Space is limited to 10 pairs per session.
