CHINA — Voters in Tuesday’s election sent three incumbents back to the Board of Selectmen and rejected a ballot measure related to school district consolidation.

On the selectmen vote, Joann Austin, Peter Foote and Paul MacDonald all were re-elected to the board. Austin got 1,456 votes, Foote got 1,449 votes and MacDonald got 1,348 votes, according to unofficial results posted on the town website.

Albert Althenn got 868 votes, which was not enough to earn a spot on the board.

In other voting, the town rejected a ballot measure that would have begun the process of withdrawing from Regional School Unit 18. The vote was 1,386 to 790 against the question. The measure would have given the board permission to spend $35,000 to pay for legal fees that would have been part of initiating the withdrawal process.

Following mandatory school district consolidation in 2007, China joined a school unit comprised of Belgrade, Oakland, Rome and Sidney.
